Polk County Humane Society
Shelter Hours
Monday - Friday hours will vary depending on the availibility of volunteers.
Saturdays hours will vary depending on the availibility of volunteers.
Our new shelter is 1 1/2 miles west on Hwy 32. We are scheduled to open early Spring 2010.
Our adoption fees start at $65, which includes up-to-date shots according to the animal's age. If the animal has not been spayed or neutered, the adoption fee will also include a $45 voucher that can be used toward the spay/neuter fees.
Our Intake Policy is based on space available. Please DO NOT bring an animal to the shelter without calling first. It is illegal, dangerous, and unethical to dump your animal on our property in hopes that we will just take care of it for you. We understand that having a pet you can no longer keep is a frustrating and hard situation.
To help you out, we have put together this list of suggestions. Please read through them before calling us. If you can help the animal on your own, that leaves room for pets that truly have no one to help them. But again, there is never a guarantee that we will be able to take the animal in your care.
This website is updated once a week on Fridays. The links at the top of the page provide information on animals that were available that day. If there is a particular animal you are interested in meeting, please call the shelter to inquire whether it is still available. Also, if you do not see a pet that meets your requirements, please remember that additional animals come in through the week. Your new family member may be at our shelter, but not on the webpage as of yet. Please come by to see who is with us today.
PetsMart generously provides space for Polk County Humane Society to set up adoption clinics on Saturdays. If there is a pet that you would like to meet, but cannot make it to the shelter, please call Dianne and ask her if that pet will be at PetsMart in Springfield, Missouri on Saturday.
